POSTCARDS – LISBON
What makes a good postcard? Following my travels, I spend quite some time editing photos for my own files, to share on social media and to include in my blog.
I also enjoy looking for that special photo that I can add to a noticeboard on my wall or to frame.
Types of photos that may become postcards…
ICONIC PHOTOS – those photos that will define the place that you have visited, the ones that most people take or the one that you just have to have (yes we all have the Mona Lisa photo right!)
People will be able to say that’s Lisbon or Paris, etc.
Then there are the elements of the place that also define it – clothes lines in Lisbon, trams, tiles, graffiti, etc. Even some foods will give a hint to where you might be.
LITTLE BITS OF THE WHOLE PICTURE – hone in on that special thing that makes you smile, or where you have used your skills to pick out that special object.
Look up, look down and look through – so much to see.
POST PROCESSING – use your skills in Photoshop to bring about a completely different look. Some can be as subtle as a changing a photo to black and white, or bringing a focal colour back into the photo.
Play around with textures, colours and levels to create a unique and sometimes funky postcard.
Brightening colours can give a dramatic effect.
Adding textures can also give a great effect.
When you have no room in your luggage for souvenirs, just take photos to bring home those memories.
Placing a white border around the photo is also a great way to define it as a Postcard.
So start searching through your own travel photos. I’m sure you will find some gems that would be postcard worthy. Enjoy.
